Before Sunrise, Sunset, Midnight (Richard Linklater, 1995, 2004, 2013).

Idea:

1.The apple is a reference drawn from Before Midnight, the one that Jesse 'steals' and finishes from his daughter.

2. I tried to connect the storyline with an apples/s.  So, that way, Before Sunrise was the one where they meet and a possible connection is setup. Hence, a low opacity apple. The apples mostly represent their relationship.

3. Then, in Before Sunset, it's seen that their connection would stay. They would be in touch. (I loved how it ended). Their relationship was unharmed, and hence the whole apple.

4. In Before Midnight, however a developing anger between the two is increasingly evident along the film. The way Jesse eats up the apple, I thought, kind of represents the way two of them eats up their relationship.

5. So they eat up their relationship, mostly, and bits and pieces are left as towards the end Jesse tries to convince her back into the relationship. The girl falls for it. And, hence the relationship is reborn. Hence the low opacity apple behind the eaten up opaque one. However, this new relationship that starts, according to me, would have a bit of coldness, as it builds on past grudges. Few of them unsolved. Hence the low-opacity apple that represents the new relationship is in bits eaten up representing the underlying hint of coldness.

6. The BG is in grayscale to, you know, uh...enhance the apples, the relationship, because that is what the films revolve around. The glow emanates from the Before Sunset apple, because that is when their relationship is at a peak.

Overall, the films are amazing. Makes you fall in love. Loved the treatment. The way the film proceeds with conversations. Often really long shots of those, which are the coolest. And it happens to touch a lot of philosophies and human thoughts. which I really appreciated. Shall check how it was filmed. I like the pattern of Richard Linklater's filmmaking. This is (these are) a must watch.

Even, the years in which the films were released have a pattern. 1995, 2004, 2013. That's a lot of pre-planning. Infact this is just a small example. There are lots more from the director. :)

Thanks to Shradha and Soumya Das for having recommended the films. :)

  1. Naice! :D
About the film Before Midnight..I feel the low opacity apple should represent their renewed relationship which is not build on past grudges but on a second chance they choose to give each other despite everything that happened. There was a line in the first film about how fights are always taken as something negative...
I kinda like the ending of this film.
